The Super Mario Brothers are probably some of the most popular gaming characters around. When the very first Nintendo gaming system came out in the 80’s, it was a giant success for Nintendo. At first, the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) started out slow, with games that weren’t that exciting. People compared the games to the Atari 2600’s games. Finally, Nintendo released the game ‘Super Mario Bros.’. This would be the game that revolutionized the gaming industry. Super Mario became Nintendo’s mascot and became an icon to gaming. Super Mario Bros. became such a hit that Nintendo started packaging it with all of their NES. So when you bought a NES, you were buying Super Mario Bros. also. They thought that this would boost the sales of the NES, which it did. I remember buying my first NES which came with Super Mario Bros, and I tell you, I was in video game heaven at the time. When I first got my Nintendo Entertainment System, it came with the Super Mario Bros game and I was in video game heaven. I used to be a huge fan of Atari; I was utterly amazed by the all of the graphics and audio improvements. The whole size of Super Mario Bros. is what made the game really stand out. Almost every Atari game that I played was really short and it wasn’t that deep at all. Atari games had all been extremely short with very little depth. With Super Mario Bros. you get a long and exciting game that you can’t wait to beat over and over. They still are making Super Mario games to this day. The games are on the more current systems such as N64 (Nintendo 64-bit system) and the Nintendo ‘Gamecube’, which is the latest system of Nintendo. Like I said above, the Super Mario Bros. are icons to Nintendo systems and brought a lot of business to Japan based companies. Even putting the Super Mario Bros. in will most likely get the item to sell good. That’s probably why there are a variety of Super Mario games from Mario Kart, to Mario Tennis, to Mario Golf, Mario Party, and almost everything else you can think of. My favorite recent Super Mario game would have to be the Mario Party series. In Mario Party, you get the chance to play hundreds of mini-games and you can choose which character you want to play as. It’s usually a game to play with your friends. Although the original Super Mario games were two players, you couldn’t play at the same time. One character would control Super Mario and the other would control Mario’s brother, Luigi. You would have to wait for the other player to lose the level until you had your shot at the level. All in all, Super Mario Bros. is a game the revolutionized the gaming industry and will always have a place in my heart. |
