‘The Sims online’ is based off of the ever popular PC game called ‘The Sims’. Massively multiplayer games have a huge amount of potential, and it seems that game makers are taking advantage of this. They provide a stream of long term profit and they are dominating the gaming market today. The Sims series, which is a traditional single player game, are bought, taken home, and never played again. With Massively multiplayer online games, you won’t even think about putting the game down. There is a monthly fee, but from a business view, MMO games are dominating the gaming industry.
When reviewing a MMO game, you have to include the fact that there is a monthly fee. So if you want to keep playing the game, you’re going to have to dish out money every month. To keep players addicted to the games, they set goals for them that are just out of their reach and that just causes the player to keep playing so that he can reach the goal, sort of like in the MMORPG game called ‘Everquest’. In the single player game of ‘The Sims’, you are able to control and family and let them live out their life by doing almost everything you do in real life. You were basically the god of these characters by controlling them. The Sims Online doesn’t make anything better because, you can only control one character and that’s it. In the single player game, your little digital Sim characters were given chores to do, go to school, get a job, eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, get married, and almost everything that you can think of, and you had to do it in a certain or your character will wet his pants or he will starve to death. The Sims Online has smaller task since you are only controlling one character. When you’re playing online, you still have to do all of those things but you don’t have to do it in a certain time. It’s probably because they want you to get the main point of the game, which is interacting with other players. While this might sound really fun, it gets pretty repetitive. Instead of a game, it seems like one big virtual chat room, while interacting with people in a way you wouldn’t think is possible. Some of the games main goals are setting up your house to your liking and making money to pay for food, bills, and furniture. Although this might sound really in-depth, it really isn’t. Basically, the only reason to keep playing this game is to meet new people. Although, there are free chat rooms all over the internet and I don’t see the point in paying for the monthly fee, let alone the game. |
